In
the heart of the
Smoky Mountains surrounded by the Cherokee National Forest lies
Standing
Bear Farm, a turn of the century
multi-generational
farmstead including the original homestead, barns, outbuildings and
farmhouse. The outbuildings have now been
converted to a bunkhouse
and cabin where we offer rustic lodging to hikers and others interested
in stepping back from today's hectic
lifestyle to a
time in America's past when life in rural backcountry Appalachia was
considered the "good life". We offer
lodging in our rustic bunkhouse or cabin,
tent camping, hot showers, laundry, internet, phone, mail-drop, shuttle
service, kitchen, fire pits and gas grill.
We
also have long term
resupply for Hot Springs (35 miles) or Fontana (75 miles),
cook-your-own pizzas and sandwiches, and an assortment of
fleece clothing for those cool mountain nights.
We
shuttle to these popular places: Fontana, Newfound Gap, Max Patch, Hot
Springs and Erwin. You may leave your car safely here for a small
parking fee of $3.00 per day per car.
If you need to make
arrangements for a shuttle or just need advice in planning
your section hike please call us.
We also kennel dogs.
For "thru-hikers" we will pickup or dropoff your dog at Fontana Dam and
provide the kennel service for you while you hike. The
"thru-hiker" rate is $240.00 per dog for a seven (7) day period.
Section or day hikers can leave their dog with us as well. Our daily
rate is $20.00 per dog.
We
are located three miles North of the Great Smoky Mountains National
Park and two
hundred yards off of the Appalachain Trail.
